Cape Town’s Jakes Gerwel Drive is undergoing a major rehabilitation to restore one of the city’s busiest arterial routes. Roadlab is conducting 50 detailed test pits to analyse the layers beneath the surface and help restore one of the city’s busiest arterial routes.

BUILD IT.
Cape Town’s Jakes Gerwel Drive Rehabilitation Project is one of the city’s largest ongoing pavement renewal initiatives, improving safety, durability, and traffic flow on a route that carries thousands of vehicles each day.
Our Western Cape technicians are excavating 50 test pits, conducted in-depth layer profiling and strength testing, and assessed pavement variability using density measurements and UCS evaluations.
Our Support for these Works
Our Western Cape technicians are excavating 50 test pits, conducted in-depth layer profiling and strength testing, and assessed pavement variability using density measurements and UCS evaluations.
Each test pit contributes a piece of the larger picture — helping define how the new pavement layers will interact with existing materials, drainage systems, and traffic loads.
It’s demanding work, done methodically, one pit at a time, but by uncovering the true structure beneath the carriageway, Roadlab enables engineers to design and execute rehabilitation with precision.
